Bayonetta guns tutorial

Now, I see these amazing little tutorials pop up at Pretzl Cosplay all the time and I figured it might be nice to do this for my Bayonetta guns! Now, this is a very tiny pic collage, but I’m hoping this’ll give you some insight into the work that went into these babies! Here’s a little Gun tutorial!   Listed below are the steps I took: 1. I traced the entire reference image in Photoshop CC. It took me FOREVER to find a reference image that I could use because everything was of extremely low quality. Save as .png and print it on an A4 piece of paper to check the dimensions. This process took about a week to figure out. This stuff is time consuming, but vital. Without a good blueprint, your prop is pretty much doomed! Print this blueprint at least as many times as the layers you need!!! You’ll see that the foam prop already has depth, because I used different blueprints. Think about which parts will pop out at you and which parts will be flat! 2. I made the base out of 1cm and 0,5 foam from Cosplay Shop ‘Select Style’. This stuff is great, super durable and easy to use! I used a small piece of PVC to make the barrel and surrounded that with 2 little rolls of 3mm craft foam to create depth and thickness. I sanded the foam in places where I wanted a little more depth or smoother edges (below the…

Aloy – Horizon Zero Dawn

Aloy was a special project to me. It was the first project where I started making tutorials from the very beginning and had people actually follow the project step by step! Turns out that that was super inspirational and what kept me going when this costume made me want to ragequit 😉 The skirt is made from 6 flaps of real hide. The bags are also real leather. This costume took between 250 – 400 hours to make (I’m serious, I lost count).   I am currently working on her spear and might even attempt her bow in the future 🙂

Video tutorial: Aloy’s bracers from Horizon Zero Dawn

Well, my first project with worbla is officially happening! Back when I started working on Aloy, I picked her outfit for multiple reasons. Partially because I just loved the overall look, but also because it presented some nice challenges for me like working with leather and making armour. After putting it off for 2,5 months because I was so busy on the costume, the time had finally come for me to start working on the bracers! Click here to see the video 🙂

Dante – Devil May Cry genderbend

Character: Dante Series: Devil May Cry This was just something in between I did for fun. I wanted to try my hand at making weapons, so I decided to make ebony and ivory from Devil May Cry. I had a coupon for a wig at Arda and I found this great red jacket in a thrift store. The rest is history 😉   Photographer: Peter Krul Photographer: Peter Krul Photographer: digifred.n

Aloy Skirt Tutorial – Part 2

Hi guys! So, today, I’m going to go over how I embroidered the skirt panels for Aloy’s skirt from Horizon Zero Dawn. If you’re looking for how I made these panels in the first place please go have a looksie at part one right HERE! Okay, are you ready? Then here we go! Note: for this tutorial, I’m going to assume that you used real hide, like me. This changes the process quite a bit! (I.e. it takes a LOT longer, but the results, in my humble opinion, are worth it!) Here’s all that you’ll need for these steps: Your finished panels. You will need 6 in total (4 large ones, 2 smaller ones on the sides) A hole puncher Red wax chord 1mm thick (approx 50 metres per panel) Sand/white wax chord 1,5 mm thick (50 metres is enough) White/Ivory/off white wax chord 1,5 mm thick (30 metres should cover it) A large hobby needle/leather needle. Any needle with a big enough opening should do. (Insert dirty joke here) A piece of paper Tape An exacto knife A marker Pencil Some nice music/Netflix/movies or something. This will take a while!   Ready? Alright, then! First step: The red chord. Now, if you look closely, you will see that the red panels on Aloy’s skirt are actually twine of some sort that has been wrapped around the fabric a bunch of times. Again, I don’t know what leather needles that girl has been using (or maybe she’s got superhuman strength, who…

Aloy skirt tutorial – Part 1: Flaps!

Hi guys! I’ve decided to chronicle my journey making Aloy’s costume from Horizon Zero Dawn. Today, I’ll be going over how I made the base flaps for her skirt! MATERIALS First of all, picking materials is quite a big step for this one. I wanted this costume to be as authentic as possible. In addition, I was eager for a chance to work with genuine hide. In the cosplay guide, Guerrilla Games specifies that her skirt is made from panels of hide that are embellished with simple fabrics. I decided to go for suede. You can either buy pigskin or cow suede. I believe mine is made from cows (I forgot to ask when I bought it), simply because it’s a bit too thick and sturdy to be pigskin. I personally think using real hide gives you the best results, but I’ll list the pro’s and cons here for your reading pleasure. 😉 Pro’s: It looks freaking great The added weight makes sure the flaps ‘hang’ believeably Authenticity Fabric is most likely too thin to successfully emulate this look Cons: It’s harder to sew (cow hide is practically impossible to sew by hand without a hole puncher and steel robotic fingers) It’s harder to find a vegan / animal friendly option Cost (it’s more expensive) Other materials used: dark blue linnen/cotton blend, light blue linnen/cotton blend A heavy duty sewing machine (if you use real, tough suede, this is a MUST). I used my mum’s old Lotus 1000 from the…

Yennefer of Vengerberg – DLC Costume tutorial

Over the past few weeks a LOT of people have asked me about how I made my alternate Yennefer of Vengerberg costume! Photographer: Peter Krul   I didn’t take pictures of all the steps, but I decided to make a blog post and share what I’ve learned so far 🙂 Hopefully this will be of some use to someone out there 🙂 For what it’s worth, with Aloy I am currently taking pics of every step, so that might help some of you 🙂 So, without further ado: let’s get to WORK! My costume is made up out of the following parts (from bottom, heh, bottom,  to top): Boots Stockings Mini-skirt / hotpants Flappy pencil type skirt Belt around hips Gypsy shirt with feather shrug Brown leather corset Belt around waist Gloves Ribbon with symbols and runes engraved on them Necklace with a pentagram So, let’s just visit these elements one by one 🙂 1. BOOTS Now, I have to be honest here. Yen is wearing elaborate boots. These are highly detailed and very intricate and it was impossible to get decent screenshots of those boots. I was on a time crunch when I made this costume (who isn’t?!) and I figured the boots would not show up in their entirety in a single picture (I was right). So, I got some thigh high boots I already owned and wore those. In some shots I’m wearing even higher boots, because I wrecked my feet the day before and could not wear heels. For…
