Aloy – Horizon Zero Dawn

Aloy was a special project to me. It was the first project where I started making tutorials from the very beginning and had people actually follow the project step by step! Turns out that that was super inspirational and what kept me going when this costume made me want to ragequit 😉 The skirt is made from 6 flaps of real hide. The bags are also real leather. This costume took between 250 – 400 hours to make (I’m serious, I lost count).   I am currently working on her spear and might even attempt her bow in the future 🙂

Aloy Skirt Tutorial – Part 2

Hi guys! So, today, I’m going to go over how I embroidered the skirt panels for Aloy’s skirt from Horizon Zero Dawn. If you’re looking for how I made these panels in the first place please go have a looksie at part one right HERE! Okay, are you ready? Then here we go! Note: for this tutorial, I’m going to assume that you used real hide, like me. This changes the process quite a bit! (I.e. it takes a LOT longer, but the results, in my humble opinion, are worth it!) Here’s all that you’ll need for these steps: Your finished panels. You will need 6 in total (4 large ones, 2 smaller ones on the sides) A hole puncher Red wax chord 1mm thick (approx 50 metres per panel) Sand/white wax chord 1,5 mm thick (50 metres is enough) White/Ivory/off white wax chord 1,5 mm thick (30 metres should cover it) A large hobby needle/leather needle. Any needle with a big enough opening should do. (Insert dirty joke here) A piece of paper Tape An exacto knife A marker Pencil Some nice music/Netflix/movies or something. This will take a while!   Ready? Alright, then! First step: The red chord. Now, if you look closely, you will see that the red panels on Aloy’s skirt are actually twine of some sort that has been wrapped around the fabric a bunch of times. Again, I don’t know what leather needles that girl has been using (or maybe she’s got superhuman strength, who…

Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn) – Wig review & Make-up test!

So I’m starting construction on Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn! One of the first things I did, was order a wig! I ordered the Matilda from Arda Wigs, in the shade Pumpkin. I plan to combine it with wefts in the shade Peach (if you do the same, buy a lighter tone than peach. It’s slightly too orange, but I think it’ll work in my case. If you have a choice, buy a blonder shade!). Of course, the first thing I HAD to do was a make up test! My brows look a tad too round here (need to get them waxed, but am holding out because of wedding shenanigans. The struggle is real, people!) and the freckles aren’t perfect (I lacked the necessary tools to make them more natural), but all in all it’s not bad for a first attempt. Might darken the eyes a bit more for dramatic effect. This ‘no make-up make-up’ is hard, for me, okay! I’m better at full out drag queen make-up, that much is for certain. I am in LOVE with this wig. It’s thick, fluffy, the quality is spectacular and the lace is barely noticeable. Now I’ve always been a big fan of Arda Wigs. They’re based in the US and their wigs are just a bit bigger than wigs usually are. I have a relatively big round head (and a lot of hair) so wigs for big heads are a necessity for me! The quality of this wig is so good that…

Harley Quinn – Batman Arkham Knight

Photographer: Charlaine Kreuning Photographer Unknown. Is this your photograph? Please contact me asap! Photographer: Bas Eenink Photographer: Bas Eenink I started construction on this costume somewhere late in 2014 and finished it in March 2015. I have always loved the edginess of Arkham Harley, the pleather and obvious BDSM references in her looks. When I saw Jessica Nigri cosplay the Arkham Knight version, I knew what I had to do 😉 Everything, apart from the corset, was hand made or adapted by me in some way. The bra is a Marlies Dekkers bra I repurposed by covering both cups with different fabric. The harness is made of two layers of pleather glued together, stainless steel rivets and O rings. The wig is a Chibi by Arda Wigs, dip dyed with markers. The skirt is hand made and features 3 layers and loads of lace that was hand sewn to the bottom. It’s made of a very thick and heavy cotton blend. The leggings were two pairs of regular leggings I cut up and sewed together. The diamonds on them were made with DecorFin fabric dye. The studs were attached by hand. —————————————————– Character: Harley Quinn Series: Batman Arkham knight Estimated construction time: Over 100 hours.
